Wayside House offers a monthly Peer support group for anyone who has been at Wayside House. The group meets the second Thursday of each month in our residential building at 378 NE 6th Avenue in Delray Beach. (Park in lot behind building).
Joining a peer support group can be one of the most powerful tools in maintaining your recovery. Here’s why:
1. You’re Not Alone
Addiction can feel isolating, but peer support reminds you that others truly get it. They’ve been through similar struggles and understand your journey without judgment.
2. Ongoing Motivation & Accountability
Regular meetings help keep you grounded and focused on your goals. Knowing others are walking the same path can motivate you to stay on track, and group members can hold you accountable in a supportive way.
3. Safe Space to Share
You can talk openly about your thoughts, cravings, or fears in a space where people won’t judge or lecture you. Sometimes, just being heard is healing in itself.
4. Learn from Others’ Experiences
Hearing how others have coped with triggers, rebuilt relationships, or handled setbacks can give you practical tools and hope for your own journey.
5. Build Meaningful Relationships
You can form new, healthy connections based on honesty and mutual respect—especially important if you’ve lost friendships or family ties due to addiction.
6. Help Others (and Yourself)
Supporting others can strengthen your own recovery. When you share your story, you remind yourself how far you’ve come—and give others hope.
7. Reduces the Risk of Relapse
Studies consistently show that people involved in peer support or mutual-aid groups have a lower risk of relapse compared to those who recover alone.
You don’t have to recover alone—and honestly, you shouldn’t have to. A peer support group offers connection, understanding, and strength that can make your recovery more stable and fulfilling.
