Addiction is a complex disease, and it needs a multi-disciplined approach. People are complex, too. When it comes to treating addiction, there is no one approach that solves the problem. Women that come to Wayside House are often dealing with a myriad of issues that impact them emotionally, physically, and psychologically. Addiction is in many ways a symptom of a larger problem.

Our substance abuse therapies are designed to address the complexities of not only the disease of addiction, but also the individual person being treated. Treatment is about healing, getting to know yourself, finding your voice and exploring solutions. We offer a wide range of therapies at Wayside House that address multiple needs and help provide a solid foundation for recovery

Aftercare

For women who have completed our Residential treatment program or our Intensive Outpatient program, we offer ongoing aftercare support. It is important to continue receiving support after you complete treatment because recovery doesn’t stop when you leave rehab. It is an ongoing process and continuing to participate in your recovery is vital in order to achieve long-term success in sobriety. Aftercare for women can help you stay connected and stay sober.

Aftercare planning encompasses several areas. It is asking yourself important questions, such as how you are going to continue incorporating recovery into your life after treatment. Will you go to meetings or groups? Where will you live after treatment? Is it a safe place? How will you deal with situations that are unhealthy or don’t support your recovery, and do you have a plan in place? Have you cultivated a support group of women who will be there for you after treatment?

These are just a few of the things that can be addressed with an aftercare plan. The idea is to tackle these issues one at a time; you don’t want to get overwhelmed! Planning ahead is important so that when you get out of treatment you are equipped to make that transition as smooth as possible. Women’s addiction aftercare planning can help.

After completion of our program, you will be eligible to participate in your weekly aftercare for women groups. These groups are open to women who are currently sober and actively seeking their recovery.

A therapist facilitates groups that will cover topics such as coping skills, socialization, family re-integration and reentry into the workforce. These groups are also a chance to talk about your successes, concerns and challenges and share solutions and encouragement with other women who are going through many of the same experiences. This will give you not only an opportunity to receive support, but also to give support and be of service to your fellow recovering women.

We encourage women in our program to participate in aftercare planning. Women who continue to stay connected to the recovery community are far more likely to achieve long-term sobriety.

Parenting Education

One of the greatest consequences of addiction for many women is loss or family or disconnection from their children. Wayside House has a certified parent educator to work with those women to help them reconnect with their children, making recovery more likely as they overcome the guilt and shame they feel. During residential treatment, children and families are welcome for Saturday visits.

Posner Career Center

Many women who have been treated for addiction have a difficult time entering or re-entering the job market. This often interferes with long-term recovery since they may feel discouraged and hopeless. Thanks to grants from the Jim Moran Foundation and Gail S. Posner Foundation, women who have been in recovery programs at Delray Beach’s Wayside House are receiving help in preparing for interviews and finding and retaining jobs. The Tina Posner Center for Career Excellence opened in 2015 at Wayside House.

The career center features new and updated computers so women can perform job searches and participate in trainings to expand their background. While in residential clients can learn programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, QuickBooks, social media marketing, accounting, and selling online. Residential clients also participate in workshops where they learn topics including interviewing techniques, finding continuing education resources,

Women seeking assistance through the center are also given aptitude and skill tests to determine what jobs will be the best fit for their skills. Additionally, Wayside House has forged a partnership with Dress for Success which is a non-profit organization that promotes the independence of disadvantaged women and assists jobseekers in selecting work-appropriate attire.

Additional services available as well are resume writing, GED study guides, food handler certification, unemployment assistance, and job placement through partnerships created with the Posner Career Center.
